So you went out on your own and opened a business!
Maybe you have a store, a yoga studio, a hair salon, a tattoo shop, a restaurant?
Maybe you are a contractor, a realtor, a lawyer?
Maybe you are an artist, a dog-sitter, a free-lance writer or a graphic designer?
Or maybe you are an affiliate marketer or a blogger and you are making your income solely online. It took courage and I commend you!
What do you all have in common? You are in business. You need people to do business with! You need sales to be made!
Anyone can rent a space and hang out a shingle and be in business. Anyone can toss up a WordPress blog. A lot of people can create products and even write sales copy.
But not everyone understands what a good email list means for business. Building your list should be your #1 priority. But not just any list. A good list. Your list.
A responsive list.
Quality over quantity.
Sometimes people make the mistake of wanting a “big” list. They focus on getting more subscribers onto their list. But that’s not necessarily the best kind of list to look for in a long term business. Why?
Having thousands of people on your list who don’t remember who you are or who are not interested in what you have to say anymore is not going to do anything for your sales; but it WILL open you up to accusations of spam.
What do you think a big, successful email list looks like?
At the end of the day, the size of your list doesn’t matter all that much.
Some marketers with lists of 5,000 and 10,000 subscribers will consistently get tons of sales from each email. Others with lists of well over 100,000 subscribers can barely make enough sales to cover their rent!
How can that be?
Influence? Your subscribers [your customer, your potential customers] trust you.
Because they trust you, they will open most, if not all your email! They actually read them too and not just open them to delete them!
The respond! They act on what you recommend or teach them. They buy stuff from you [or products that you recommend as an affiliate or respond to solo ads that you run on your page for others].
What’s more, they help you out. They feel like they know you so they respond to your email. If you ask for help, ask for a survey, as what they are looking for, they will answer!
Then it’s your turn. You respond, you research, you give them answers to their questions and help them solve their problems. They refer a few more to your list. A small but loyal and responsive list will build your business for you.
So don’t concentrate on getting millions on our list. Concentrate on connecting with those who are looking for what you have to offer. And ALWAYS remember to nurture that list and connect again and again with people who have already purchased from you. Make them feel valued and wanted. Remember it’s hard to find new customers. Keep a hold of the ones you already have!
